History

This cemetery belongs to East Caney, a farming community in eastern Hopkins County about nine miles east of Sulphur Springs that was settled before 1900. East Caney once had a church, a school, and a cemetery, but most residents left after World War II, leaving the burial grounds among the community's few surviving landmarks. It is recorded as an African American cemetery serving the East Caney settlement.
