History
The Villa Antigua Border Heritage Museum occupies a restored two-story brick Italianate residence in Laredo's San Agustin Historic District, just north of the Rio Grande. Built in the early 20th century by a local merchant and home to two prominent families, the structure had been gutted by fire and was headed for demolition before the Webb County Heritage Foundation and Webb County purchased it in 2002 and undertook a roughly $2.5 million restoration. Administered by the Webb County Heritage Foundation, the museum interprets Laredo's history, culture, and connection to El Camino Real de los Tejas through changing exhibits and educational seminars.
