About this tour
Seguin's small, walkable downtown is a surprising showcase of 19th- and 20th-century building technology: a Greek Revival mansion cast out of early concrete, an adobe house saved by the city's first preservation fight, a grand old hotel that once doubled as a college dormitory, and a streamlined 1936 Art Moderne courthouse, all within a few blocks of the 1830s home of the Texas Ranger who helped plat the town in the first place. This short walk traces German-immigrant craftsmanship and civic ambition side by side, block by block, in a downtown most drivers on I-10 never think to get out and see.
