History

The Aztec Theatre opened on June 4, 1926 as an exotic-themed movie palace, its interior filled with relief carvings, sculpture and painted motifs drawn from Aztec, Maya and other Mesoamerican cultures. Designed by the firm of Meyer and Holler and built at a cost of about $1.75 million, it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since October 1992 and now operates as a live-entertainment venue.
