History
This La Grange house began as two rooms of local pine around 1841 and was bought in 1866 by Nathaniel W. Faison (1817-1870), a survivor of the 1842 Dawson expedition who amassed extensive land holdings across Texas. Faison willed the home to his formerly enslaved housekeeper Louisiana Brown, one of the first freedwomen in the state to own property, and it now serves as a museum. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
