History

The Monthalia Methodist Episcopal congregation was organized with seventeen members in 1886 and built its first church between Monthalia and Cost in 1889. When the church relocated to its present site between 1913 and 1915, a new cemetery was opened, its entrance long marked by an 'M E' sign. The congregation became the Monthalia Methodist Church in 1939 and the Monthalia United Methodist Church in 1968.
