History

New Pickton Cemetery is the newer section of the burial ground serving Pickton, a community that took shape in southeastern Hopkins County after the East Line and Red River Railroad arrived in 1879. A committee's choice of "Pick Town" for the new rail station was shortened by the railroad to Pickton, and a post office followed in 1881. The cemetery is arranged with an older portion to the east and this newer western portion.
