History

Willowsburg Cemetery is a historic African American burial ground in Lavaca County, reached by county roads east of Hallettsville near Sublime. About two dozen markers remain, the oldest that of Augusta Mayfield who died in 1911, but two very large cedar trees and numerous unmarked graves suggest the cemetery is considerably older.
