History

Allen Cemetery is an old African American burial ground in Lavaca County, reached from Hallettsville by crossing the Lavaca River and turning off toward Adams Branch. It contains more than 170 markers, the oldest belonging to Mariah Mitchell, who died on May 14, 1892.
