History

Medford Cemetery crowns a small knoll south of Avery in Red River County and was established by Luke R. Medford after he arrived from Alabama in 1870, on what was likely the Sewell Hancock survey. A bronze memorial records its founding, and the oldest marked grave is that of Susan Ora Medford, who died in 1891; only a handful of burials are documented at the site.
