History

The Old City Cemetery in Liberty, one of the oldest towns in Texas, was laid out in 1848 as a Protestant burial ground, with a Catholic cemetery established beside it soon afterward. Located on Bowie Street, it holds the graves of many of Liberty County's early residents. It remains among the oldest public burial grounds in southeast Texas.
