History

This cemetery belongs to the White Rock community in northern Red River County, one of the county's oldest settlements, established as early as 1823 when John Stiles crossed the Red River and settled at a spot marked by a white rock. The burial ground was tied to the White Rock Methodist Episcopal Church, which received land in a series of deeds beginning in 1866. The oldest marked grave is that of Joseph A. C. White, who died in August 1866, and about 383 burials had been documented by 2004.
