History

Frontier Texas! is a 14,000-square-foot multimedia museum in Abilene that opened in 2004 to interpret the West Texas frontier from about 1780 to 1880. Set on 6.4 acres, it uses life-sized holographic 'spirit guides'—among them a Native American, a soldier, a buffalo hunter, a former slave, and a frontier woman—to tell the story of the Rolling Plains. In 2013 the museum added a roughly $2 million exhibit titled 'Blood & Treasure on the Frontier.'
