History

The Lone Wolf Crossing Bridge marks the historic river crossing where travelers forded the South Concho River between Fort Concho and points south, near an 1870s buffalo-hunters' camp called Lone Wolf. The present 132-foot Pratt through-truss span was fabricated in 1922 by the Virginia Bridge and Iron Company and set atop ashlar stone piers salvaged from an earlier bridge of about 1888. It is the oldest surviving bridge and the only remaining metal-truss bridge in San Angelo, and it was rehabilitated around 2011 as a pedestrian and bicycle crossing. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
