History

This stone residence stood on Officers' Row at Fort Concho, the U.S. Army post established in 1867 at the forks of the Concho River to defend the West Texas frontier. Officers of the fort's garrisons, among them the 4th Cavalry and the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry, were quartered in such houses until the post closed in 1889. Fort Concho, named a National Historic Landmark in 1961, is preserved today by the City of San Angelo.
