History

This stone residence was one of the officers' quarters at Fort Concho, founded in 1867 at the junction of the North and South Concho rivers to guard the West Texas frontier. The fort was home over its active years to the 4th Cavalry and later the Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th Cavalry and 25th Infantry before it was abandoned in 1889. Now a National Historic Landmark, Fort Concho preserves about two dozen of its original and reconstructed buildings.
